“Fell from Top 10 to not mentioned at all”

23 Feb

Fedor Emelianenko…  Gonna be 35 this year.  Hasn’t won a fight since November of 2009.  Pretty sad actually.  It’s like 2004 Roy Jones all over again.  Dare I say Chuck Liddell vol. 2?  I can’t think of another athlete who has gone from being perceived as invincible and one of the greatest fighters of all-time to potentially never competing again in the span of a little over a year.

I don’t know man, I just added his Sherdog link to the post cuz I was curious about his fight record… its 31-3.

I wouldn’t compare him to Chuck Liddell; Iceman went to Pride and got the being of his life via Rampages knees.

Fedor has been on top of the MMA food chain for so long and most people have only seen him fight on Youtube videos.

Maybe this is what the MMA world needs to knock him off his high horse and consider a few fights with the UFC. I’m no longer confident he would breeze thru the heavyweight division with guys like Carwin and Cain Velasquez, but you saw him murder Tim Sylvia and Arlovski right? BROOTAL DOOD!

I would probably compare him more to Randy Couture. Fedor is always gonna be a savage mother fucker, thats his fighting style. He goes from dead calm to trying to rip your fucking face off in a matter of seconds. He’ll bounce back.

Also since MMA is so new, we haven’t seen too many NEW SCHOOL top level fighters get RETIRED. Iceman got retired by the UFC, Rogan put the words in his mouth after his last loss by KO. UFC can’t afford to have their Franchise Gladiators get brutally shamed over and over and over. Its just bad for their image.

I still think the only reason Couture came back to get the belt is because he knew he could topple Tim Sylvia who in my opinion was the worst heavyweight champion I’ve seen in a long time. It took Randy like 5 rounds to do what Fedor did in 30 seconds. Oh wait Randy took it to a decision if I remember… That’s Dana White matchmaking for ya, all about the story and the ratings…

I’m not even sure why they keep letting CroCop keep fighting it makes me sad. He was money back in the day but MMA has evolved way beyond being a two trick pony.

On MMA Live they were speaking on how he’s neglected seriously training BJJ for the past couple of years or so. Way apparent in his last two bouts. I really don’t know how far loopy punches + sambo can carry this dude anymore. The heavies are evolving too much, skillwise and genetically speaking. The main reason he was at the top for years was because the division was a pile of shit for years. Sylvia and Arlovski were right in that mix. All this being said, I don’t see these losses tainting his legacy, the same way I don’t see Chuck’s demise at the end of his career tainting his. Tito Ortiz bodies Shamrock x 3. Matt Hughes pummels Royce Gracie. Liddell gets ktfo a handful of times. Cro Cop and Fedor both eventually lose convincingly on more than one occasion. The list goes on and on. Evolution.

Yeah he’s never even needed to do BJJ cuz he crushed people for so long and his sambo and submissions always were enough to get by. And for tainting legacies, I think the only way out of MMA is either an injury, contract disputes, or losing a bunch of fights in a row.

Most legends seem to leave with the losses piling up. Any other way would just look like quitting vs. retiring. I think Chuck said something to that effect when he hung it up.

I still think Fedor could come to UFC and bang some heads around. Not saying he could get the belt but he’d do better than CroCop I think. Alot of the heavies are def evolving but alot still depend on or just favor their standup. Hopefully he can post some W’s I love Fedor.
