I have to admit I’m always skeptical of new MMA “leagues”, especially since Chuck Norris’ wack World Combat League. However, I fully admit I’m impressed with both IFL and most recently WEC. International Fight League is essentially a new school PRIDE with the boxing ring and the legendary MMA fighters as coaches. With the tournament style team setup and Bas Rutten commentating, I prefer watching IFL over UFC’s free Fight Nights.
Similarly, I see World Extreme Cagefighting as a new school UFC. Presently its still gaining momentum but the fighters are hungry and pretty damn talented. Their advantages include their stacked Featherweight division and the goons from Tapout promoting /sponsoring. Also for some reason WEC seems to be on everytime I turn on the TV.
This Wednesday Dec. 12th they will be airing three title fights LIVE on Versus as well as the debut of Jens Pulver in the WEC. Airing at 9pm, its free and it should be off the hook featuring Urijah Faber, Paulo Filho, and “The Rhino” Doug Marshall all defending their title belts.
Also tune in at 8pm to see the prefight special “WEC: Outside the Ring”. UFC needs to either stack their cards better or cut the price of PPV cuz with these two great leagues airing tons of fights for free, people are gonna get sick of wasting Saturday nights and paying $40 to see shit like Bisbing vs. Evans…
