Bling’d – Blood, Diamonds & Hip Hop

I caught this VH1 Rock Doc the other day and was pretty shocked.  Raekwon, Paul Wall & Tego Calderon travel to Sierra Leone and get a first hand glimpse of the diamond industry and its impact on the people.  Its one thing to hear about “a shorty armless” and another thing to see the footage. The disturbing irony of this show is that MTV/VH1 conglomerate is responsible for flashing more diamonds than any other TV channels… Hmmm…

I am desperately looking for a copy of this video. VH1 says they will not be re-airing it and I need it to use this for a lesson in my high school economics class. I am willing to pay for materials, time and shipping of a complete, high quality video of this show. Please contact me at smith2bs@aol.com if you can help me

Contact VH1? They might have copies for sale on DVD/VHS.

This looks like a very important documentary… but it does not look like you will learn much about modern Sierra Leone or its vibrant hip hop culture here. Hip Hop came from Africa! I wonder if they mentioned that at all. Nice work but to find out about Hip Hop in Sierra Leone you will have to watch “Sweet Salone”.

Yeah they do delve into the Sierra Leone hip hop culture. Paul Wall, Rae and Tego go to a SL hip hop club and Paul Wall spins some records.

I think they also had some local artists perform a bit too I can’t remember. I will check out that link though thanks.
