Dana White goes off on EliteXC…

5 11 2008

And rightfully so. I share the same sentiments if it’s true that Shaw and Elite may have tampered with the fight. I love White for not holding back. RIP EliteXC.

Kimbo Slice Knocked Out in 1st Round…

11 10 2008

Mad props to Dave in Manchester NH for throwing his cash on Pertuzelli on my advice.  I don’t know what’s worse, this fight or the horrible announcers.  I’m pretty happy Kimbo got dropped cuz he acts way to hard for someone thats totally unproven in MMA.  His entourage is silly, his past fights are pathetic and I’m totally sick of him.  He didn’t even tap gloves with Petruzelli at the beginning.  It must really suck being the King at barekuckle backyard fights and getting to the big leagues and looking like a loser.

Kimbo got owned by a sissy punch too…

UFC ring girl Rachelle Leah to do Playboy…

16 08 2008

She did a spread back in 2006 but didn’t take it all off. This time around she’ll be bare assed. Yes! Her issue is scheduled to drop around November so be on the lookout. Also cross your fingers for Arianny to follow Rachelle’s lead.

UFC 87: Seek & Destroy…

9 08 2008

One of the best cards of the year takes place tonight in Minnesota. GSP defends his belt against the multi talented Jon Fitch while Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta will face off in what will likely be fight of the night. Above, Luke Cummo and Tamden McCrory look to put on a show in the Revenge of the Nerds match. Haha, just clowning but I thought these weigh-in pics were a riot. My picks bolded:

Georges St. Pierre vs. Jon Fitch
Brock Lesnar vs. Heath Herring
Roger Huerta vs. Kenny Florian
Manny Gamburyan vs. Rob Emerson
Demian Maia vs. Jason MacDonald

Affliction: Banned & Fight Night: Silva vs. Irvin results…

20 07 2008

Topping off a great night of fights were quick and impressive wins for the headliners of both cards, Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko. About a minute into round 1, Silva caught an Irvin low kick with his left hand and used his right hand to put Irvin on his ass for good. In the Affliction event, Fedor came out aggressive with a flurry of rights and lefts that put Sylvia on the canva before locking in a rear naked around 30 seconds into the fight. Pretty good debuts for Silva at 205 and Affliction. For full results of both cards and to watch all the fights, hit up www.mmalinker.com.

Floyd Mayweather signs with UFC?…

9 06 2008

I don’t know how legit some of these rumors are but I’ve read reports from more than one website stating that Floyd will be making an announcement sometime this week of his plans to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Last week he declared himself ‘retired’ from boxing, something he’s done in the past and not stayed true to. But he was about to make a big payday by fighting his second fight with De La Hoya in September. Passing up cash like that tells me he’s got something big lined up. Click the pic for the report and stay tuned for developments…

Roy Jones Jr. on Dana White…

26 05 2008

Little clip of Roy calling Dana White out on his double standard regarding Floyd Mayweather in the UFC and Anderson Silva boxing. Not much has become of this story since Anderson first challenged Roy last month. Maybe Roy taunting Dana White will get something poppin.

UFC 84: Ill Will Penn vs. Sherk…

20 05 2008

No love lost between these two. I’m anticipating a very brutal fight. It’s gonna come down to who can hold their own on the ground because you can bet Sean Sherk isn’t going to be too eager to trade shots with BJ. Ground & pound against Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the lightweight championship. It’s been a long time coming for BJ Penn, who is well deserving of a title shot. Sherk would also be a dominant champion. My picks are bolded.

Sean Sherk vs. BJ Penn
Wanderlei Silva vs. Keith Jardine
Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic
Tito Ortiz vs. Lyoto Machida
Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes

UFC 83: St. Pierre-Serra 2…

19 04 2008

Topping off the best sports weekend of the year so far (Hopkins-Calzaghe, NBA/NHL Playoffs), the UFC travels to Montreal where GSP gets a chance at redemption with his hometown fans behind him. He takes on Matt Serra for the welterweight championship in a rematch of the huge upset win Serra posted last year. Click the image for event information including a list of where you can go to watch the fights. See below for my bolded picks. Hopefully I do better than my last ones for Fight Night.

Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre
Rich Franklin
vs. Travis Lutter
Nate Quarry vs. Kalib Starnes
Charles McCarthy vs. Michael Bisping
Mark Bocek vs. Mac Danzig

Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia…

11 04 2008

Word from various MMA sites including Sherdo, MMAjunkie, and Yahoo! Sports is that former UFC heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia and former PRIDE heavyweight champ have agreed to fight in July. It has been reported that the event will probably be promoted by Affliction in partnership with HDNet Fights. We’ll finally get a chance to see Fedor in the limelight once again. I personally see Fedor pulling an early sub, although it wouldn’t be a stretch of mind to predict a Tim Sylvia decision if his takedown defense is top notch and the 3-round fight plays out like a boring boxing match (see Sylvia vs. Arlovski III). Don’t put your money on it though. Check back for updates.

Rampage coaching TUF…

9 04 2008

Good move by Dana White to mix things up a little for the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike. Not only did he get two of the most entertaining MMA personalities in Forrest Griffin & Quinton “Rampage” Jackon, but he also switched the tournament up by making contestants fight their way onto the show rather than giving them a free ticket into the house. His reasoning behind this was that he was sick and tired of the “pussies” who would get homesick, miss their girlfriends and get nervous around the cameras. He wanted the toughest fighters to prove themselves prior to becoming a member of this season’s TUF, thus forcing them to fight over the spots. So far we’ve seen some nice subs and KOs. The second round of pre-fights are on tonight. Should be a fun season.

Ultimate Fight Night: Florian vs. Lauzon…

1 04 2008

i.jpg

Crazy fight card tomorrow night including a lot of big names from the UFC. The headliner bout between Florian and Lauzon should be one of the year’s best. Almost too close to call. The winner will most likely get a lightweight title shot in the near future, perhaps against the winner of Penn and Sherk. Below are my picks. Also, immediately following the Fight Night is the premiere of TUF: Rampage & Forrest. Should definately be a cool season. Forrest and Rampage are two of the more entertaining personalities from the UFC.

Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
Thiago Alves vs. Karo Parisyan
Matt Hammill vs. Tim Boetsch
Kurt Pellegrino vs. Nate Diaz
James Irvin vs. Houston Alexander
Gray Maynard vs. Frank Edgar
Din Thomas
 vs. Josh Neer

Leonard Garcia busted on cocaine distribution charges…

29 03 2008

leonard-garcia2.jpg

The UFC & WEC fighter recognized for his epic brawl with Roger Huerta last year was indicted on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 5 kilos of Yae, in addition to other substantive counts. Apparently he was a key member of a huge coke dealing ring in Texas that was being investigated by the DEA, U.S. Marshals, police departments across jurisdictions, and a ton of other state and federal agencies for 4 years. Looks like we won’t be seeing him fight anytime soon. Damn…

MMA to CBS?…

28 02 2008

untitled2.jpg

Interesting article from Yahoo! Sports. Seems like this could be the first legit threat to the UFC on Spike TV. Also, Mark Cuban and Oscar De La Hoya have become involved with starting organizations and possibly signing fighters; Bud Light has signed a 3-year deal with the UFC. MMA is quickly becoming more widely accepted. And now with the good possibility of EliteXC on CBS Saturday primetime, the sport could draw huge ratings. There’s also word that Kimbo Slice may headline the first card! Click the banner to check out the story.

Ultimate Fight Night 13…

27 01 2008

i3.jpg

Kenny Florian is set to take on fellow Bostonian Joe Lauzon in a bout headlining the April 2nd Ultimate Fight Night card in Colorado. This is a pretty intriguing matchup to me being that both Ken Flo and J Lau are from the Boston area and their styles are very similar. I’d give Florian the advantage in BJJ and Lauzon the slight edge in striking, power and aggression. Joe has a bright future in the MMA game. He seems like a really smart, down to earth fighter. It would be that much sicker if they could get this event to be held at a Boston venue. Check out the UFC events page by clicking on the pic to see some pretty exciting upcoming bouts within the next few months.
